When painting them do the check rails next to the insufrog need to be weathered.Sometimes my 0-6-0 gets stuck. Not sure if it`s me or the loco at fault.

Looking at the real thing they seem to have any tyre wear on them.

It's a racing certainty that you problems are due to the fact that the point shown is an "Insulfrog" type so you have a small section that does not conduct electricity to the loco.

With a shortish loco like a 0-6-0 then as it crosses over the point there is a period when one pair of wheels are insulated from the track and you are relying on good contact from the other wheels.
You haven't said what type of loco it is but some i.e. the Lima shunter only collects current off two axles so if you have any dirt on the track or wheels they are very prone to this problem.

The only way to improve the situation is to use "Electro Frog" points where there is no insulating gap.
However there are some slight complications with wiring eletrofrog ones.
If anyone needs more detail on this then post here and I will expand on the issue.

I have seen copper tape used to improve these points - it is stuck to the plastic, along the top of the rail and connects with the live rail. It can be difficult to get the tape to stick, but it does look good once painted etc.

There is another possible option but I have never tried it.
You can buy (at £7-00 for a very small bottle) conducting paint.
It is used for repairing cracks on printed circuit boards.
It would be possible to use this paint to coat the top of the plastic part of the frog and allow pick up from it.
However as I havn't actually tried it I dont know how long the paint would last with metal wheels thundering over it.

If you want to try it Neil then I still have some left after I used it to repair a car heated rear window.
